Description

While best known for his comedies of the 1890s, including The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde was a master of many forms. This grand reproduction of a rare 1910 edition includes five of his very best fairy tales: "The Happy Prince," "The Nightingale and the Rose," "The Selfish Giant," "The Devoted Friend," and "The Remarkable Rocket." Charles Robinson, one of the most successful artists of the Golden Age, enhances the text with 12 remarkable full-color plates and scores of other line drawings: decorated initial caps, illustrated vignettes, and other embellishments.

Author description

Poet and playwright Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) remains best known for his comedies of the 1890s, including The Importance of Being Earnest, and for his tragic imprisonment and untimely death. His only novel, the horror classic The Picture of Dorian Gray, continues to inspire works in the genre. Charles Robinson (1870-1937) was the middle brother of three, each successful illustrators during the Golden Age. Charles was best known for his color work, and a sense of quiet beauty which lived in his compositions. He was an active book illustrator his entire career.
