Tony Duquette/Hutton Wilkinson Jewelry

Author(s): Hutton Wilkinson

House & Style

The jewellery designed by Tony Duquette is spectacular and eccentric. Duquette made pieces for such women as the Duchess of Windsor, Liza Minnelli, Elsie de Wolfe, Loretta Young, Mary Pickford, Irene Dunne, and most importantly, his wife Beegle. Today, his extravagant one-of-a-kind pieces, which are relatively few in number, are rare and highly desirable collector's items. The tradition of 'more is more' is carried on by Hutton Wilkinson, who designs a luxury line of one-of-a-kind jewellery sold exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue (one ring might cost $50,000, a necklace $150,000), as well as a commercial line sold for $50 to $200. "Tony Duquette Jewellery" will feature photographs and design drawings of the vintage pieces by Duquette paired with the new jaw-dropping necklaces, rings, and bracelets created by Wilkinson. New photography has been commissioned to capture both old and new pieces in elaborate tableaux set-ups at Dawnridge, Tony Duquette's famous house in Beverly Hills. Wilkinson carries on the legacy of Duquette's beliefs about the healing properties and symbolism of stones and gems, as well as the importance of their origins and historic significance. This precious luxury edition, with its cloth binding, gilt-edge pages, and foil stamping, itself resembles an exquisite jewellery box, even Aladdin's cave, tempting all curious jewellery and gem lovers to peek inside.
