Taxi, The Inside Story is a dynamic commentary that brings to life the Australian taxi driver experience. The book exposes stories of inspiration, courage, hardship and hope that characterise being a taxi driver. Taxi, The Inside Story will have you hooked as each driver offers an insight into their humanity, and through their experience of their passengers, an insight into our own humanity. Guthridge says she was inspired to start the project after encountering an Indian taxi driver who told her he 'felt great' when she greeted him after jumping in his cab. 'He was like a yogi,' she recalls. 'He said, 'I am great because I choose to be great, that is how I choose to live my life. Society doesn't like us, the government doesn't like us, no one likes us.' Guthridge then went on to devise the Taxi Project, inspired by the driver's philosophy, and by her own observations that taxi drivers often had a good story to tell. When it is finished it will consist of a book, an exhibition and a public awareness campaign. Silver Top Taxis and I3CABS are sponsoring the project, along with UNIGAS, the Victorian Taxi Association and Taxi Talk magazine, Profits will go to Very Special Kids.
