In this book she descibes the horrors of the Warsaw ghetto and her determination to survive as she saw many of her fellow countrymen and women lost to the concentration camps of Belsen and Auschwitz. Halina descibes the bravery of the many people who risked their lives to shelter and save her. Barely seventeen when the war ends, she descibes her life in the new Poland and her final disillusionment with the Polish People's Republicand the first steps in her long journey to Australia.
