Acropolis: Ancient Cities

Author(s): Richard Economakis

Pictorial

This book is both a guide to the history and buildings of the Acropolis, and a visual promenade that conveys the unique aesthetic qualities of the place through the power of the lens. The reader is led around the site in a clear, sequential manner, being encouraged to appreciate the remarkable combination of buildings and space and the subtle relationships of one monument with another. The deliberate contrast of marble and blue Attic sky, the crisp outlines of forms and shadows, delicate carvings against expanses of stone, and juxtapositions of scale are as important as the events and individuals who shaped them.
